How we work

Magenta is a fully resourced Art-Studio space. We offer a safe, accepting and pressure-free environment for people within the Whakatū Nelson community who have lived experience of mental distress. Our creative space is a place to meet new people and connect to a community where art is the bond. Benefits of participating in ‘art for wellbeing’ include the development of self-esteem and individual potential.

For many who attend Magenta sessions, it is their only artistic outlet or opportunity for comfortable social connection.

To attend simply come to the studio for a visit, meet our tutors and see if this is something for you, there is no referral required. You are welcome to phone ahead of time, however this is not necessary.

You are welcome to bring a support person with you. We will welcome your attendance, show you our facilities and hope to see you regularly.

Please come and visit Magenta if you could benefit from being part of an arts community of like-minded people and wanting to pursue your own creative endeavors and self-expression. If you love making art, then this is a space for you.

We provide an art space, art materials and equipment for artists to work on their own projects. Tutors are available to give direction and have a broad range of skills, all tutors have their own professional art practise, some specialised workshops are also offered.
